CPT accompanys Sherwan Sherwani
Today, CPT met with Sherwan Sherwani, an outspoken journalist, activist, human rights defender in his home. Currently, Sherwan is involved in the “NO for Now” campaign for the upcoming referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Mr. Sherwan and his family did not feel safe staying in their home as their house was raided by security forces and is being monitored by unknown people. Sherwan told CPT that security forces in Erbil and Duhok have threatened, imprisoned and insulted him in the past.
Sherwan and his family requested CPT to accompany him and his family. CPT will be staying in his home to monitor the ongoing situation. More will come in a short time about Sherwan and his family.
