Sulaimani Student Protests- Press Release
Students in cities throughout Iraqi Kurdistan gathered peacefully to ask the government to pay them the student allowance that was cut in 2014 due to the economic crisis. Security forces responded with tear gas, water spray and violent arrests.
The first demonstration was held on the 21st, these photos are from the third day of protests in Sulaimani.
Young people are angry at the way they feel ignored by the government and the violence from security forces that their request has been met with.

Holding demonstrations and covering them shouldn’t be criminalized.
According to CPT sources, in the last three days at least 91 student demonstrators from Sulaimani and Erbil have been arrested. Their family members do not know where they are being held or in what condition.
During yesterday's protests in Sulaimani four journalists; Abas Mohamad from Al-Ashraq, Razhan Majid from Al-Bagdadia, Berhem Latef and Brwa Assad from Roj news agencies, were arrested by an unknown security force.
CPT Iraqi Kurdistan team calls the KRG authorities to immediately release the detained journalists and protesters.
