Turkish military intensifies drone operations in southern regions of Iraqi Kurdistan

Turkey has conducted bombardments further south in Iraqi Kurdistan with two deadly drone strikes in civilian populated areas.
On 18 September, the Turkish Air Force targeted the Arbat Agricultural Airport - a small airfield 17 kilometres south of Sulaymaniyah, Iraqi Kurdistan.
According to some official sources, three Kurdish counter-terrorism team members and three Rojava counter-terrorism team members were killed by missiles from two Turkish drones while undertaking a training exercise at the airfield. The Turkish Foreign Ministry has also released an official statement confirming responsibility.
This bombardment is a new escalation as it is the first time Turkey, a member of NATO, has deliberately targeted an Iraqi Kurdistan security force. The attack also emphasises the recent increase in Turkish drone strikes in the Sulaymaniyah governorate, far from the Iraq-Turkey border. People in this area no longer feel safe.
Two days later, the Turkish drone targeted the car of a shopkeeper in the village of Endze in the Pshdar district of the Sulaymaniyah area. His vehicle was attacked while working 50 metres away in his shop. He was unharmed. CPT spoke to the shopkeeper shortly after the attack, and he said, "I was in my shop as usual, and the drone attacked my car and damaged two other cars in the area. Turkey doesn't distinguish between civilian and armed people".
On International Peace Day, CPT Iraqi Kurdistan team asks the international community, the Iraqi federal government and Kurdistan Regional Government authorities to protect the civilians in Iraqi Kurdistan from the ongoing 40 years of Turkish military operations in the KRI so that civilians can live in peace.

هەر دوو ڕۆژ لە دوای ئەم بۆردوومانە، فڕۆکە بێفڕۆکەوانەکانی تورکیا بۆردوومانی ئۆتۆمبێلی دوکاندارێکیان کرد لە گوندی ئێندزێ لە قەزای پشدەر لە پارێزگای سلێمانی. ئەم هاوڵاتییە مەدەنیە، تەنیا ٥٠ مەتر لە ئۆتۆمبێلەکەیەوە دوور بوو و سەرقاڵی کارکردن بوو لە دوکانەکەیدا. لە ئەنجامی بۆردوومانەکدا هیچ زیانێکی گیانی نەکەوتەوە. لەدوای بۆردوومانەکە، تیمی کوردستانی عێراقی CPT لەگەڵ خاوەنی ئۆتۆمبێلەکەدا قسەیکرد و ئەو هاوڵاتییە گوتی، “وەک هەر ڕۆژێکی ئاسایی، من لە دوکانەکەی خۆمدابووم و فڕۆکە بێفڕۆکەوانەکانی تورکیا بۆردوومانی ئۆتۆمبێلەکەی منیان کرد. جگە لە ئۆتۆمبێلەکەی من دوو ئۆتۆمبێلی تریش زیانیان بەرکەوت. تورکیا جیاوازی ناکات لە نێوان هاوڵاتیانی مەدەنی و خەڵکی چەکداردا.”.
لەمڕۆدا، کە ڕۆژی نێودەوڵەتی ئاشتییە، ئێمە وەکو تیمی کوردستانی عێراقی CPT داوا لە کۆمەڵگەی نێودەوڵەتی و حکومەتی فیدڕاڵی عێراق و بەرپرسانی حکومەتی هەرێمی کوردستان دەکەین کە ژیانی هاوڵاتیانی مەدەنی هەرێمی کوردستان بپارێزن کە ٤٠ ساڵە بەبەردەوامی لە ژێر مەترسی ئۆپەراسیۆنە سەربازییەکانی تورکیادان، بۆ ئەوەی ئەوانیش بتوانن لە ئاشتیدا ژیان بگوزەرێنن.
