Journalists attacked by Security Forces

Today journalists who were attacked, held and abused by security forces spoke with CPT.

Plain clothes security forces arrived at the protest being held by teachers and other government employees on the Arbat road last week. They began arresting the protesters and targeting the journalists who were covering the story.

The journalists we spoke with today shared that their cameras, microphones and personal mobiles were taken. They were detained without reason and had to rely on personal connections for their release. Some of them were badly beaten and insulted. One journalists shared they had to seek emergency care because of their injuries. The public hospital refused to treat them without permission from the security forces. Because of the seriousness of their injuries they were forced to attend a private hospital instead.

While all of them were eventually released by security forces without charges some are still waiting for the return of their equipment.

These attacks against journalists is a severe blow to Freedom of Expression in Sulaimani.

Journalists play an important role in ensuring the public is fully and honestly informed. Damaging their equipment, deleting their images and threatening them is an attack on democracy.

لە خۆپێشاندانی هەفتەی ڕابردووی مامۆستایان و کارمەندانی حکومی لەسەر ڕێگای نێوان سلێمانی -عەربەت، کارمەندانی هێزە ئەمنییەکان بە جلی مەدەنییەوە چوونە ناو خۆپێشاندانەکە و سەرباری دەستگیرکردنی چەند خۆپێشاندەرێک، ئەو ڕۆژنامەوان و میدیاکارانەی کە ڕوماڵی خۆپێشاندانەکەیان دەکرد بە ئامانجگرت و سەرباری لێدان و دەستبەسەرداگرتنی کەلوپەلەکانییان، هەندێک ڕۆژنامەوانیشییان دەستگیرکرد.

ڕۆژنامەوانەکان بە تیمی کوردستانی عێراقی CPTیان گووت، کە کامێرا، مایکرۆفۆن و مۆبایلی کەسی بەشێکیان دەستی بەسەرداگیراوە. هەندێکیان دەستگیرکراون بە بێ ئەوەی هیچ هۆکارێک هەبێت و بە هاوکاری کەسانی تر و پەیوەندی کەسی ئازادکراون. هەندێکیان لێیاندراوە و سوکایەتییان پێکراوە. یەکێک لە ڕۆژنامەوانەکان بەپەلە براوەتە نەخۆشخانە بۆ وەرگرتنی چارەسەر و فریاگوزاری پزیشکی بە هۆی برینەکانییەوە، بەڵام نەخۆشخانەی گشتی ڕەتی کردووەتەوە کە بە بێ مۆڵەتی هێزە ئەمنییەکان چارەسەر و خزمەتگوزاری تەندروستی پێشکەش بکەن. بەهۆی سەختی برین و شەکەتی جەستەییەوە، ئەو ڕۆژنامەوانە ناچاربووە کە لە نەخۆشخانەی ئەهلی چارەسەر وەربگرێت.

لەکاتێکدا کە هەموو ڕۆژنامەوانەکان ئازادکراون، بەڵام تاوەکو ئێستا کەلوپەلی ڕۆژنامەوانی هەندێکیان بۆ ڕۆژنامەوانەکان نەگەڕێندراوەتەوە و هەر لە دەستی هێزە ئەمنییەکاندان.

ئەم جۆرە لە هێرش و بە ئامانجگرتنانەی سەر ڕۆژنامەنوسان، پاشەکشێی گەورەیە لە ئازادی ڕادەربڕین لە پارێزگای سلێمانی. ڕۆژنامەوانان ڕۆڵێکی گرنگ دەبینن لە گەیاندنی ڕاستی ڕووداوەکان بە ڕای گشتی. دەستبەسەرداگرتن و شکاندنی کەلوپەلی ڕۆژنامەوانی، سڕینەوەی وێنە و ڤیدیۆی تۆمارکراو و هەڕەشەکردن لە ڕۆژنامەوانان هەڕەشە و هێرشە بۆسەر دیموکراسی.
