Hunger Strike Ends

Government employees announced today they would end their hunger strike. For 14 days they have camped outside of the UN building in Sulaimani, demanding their salaries be paid.

Today hundreds of people gathered in support and asked them to end their hunger strike.

During the strike they achieved verbal support from both the Kurdistan and Iraqi governments and a promise to establish a committee to address the issue.

There has been a lot of concern over the worsening health of the protesters and other members of civil society have promised they will continue the struggle in new ways.

During the same time a general strike was held in solidarity in the Sulaimani Bazaar.
